First day for "Better Market Street," banning private automobiles from that thoroughfare. Only transit vehicles, bicycles, taxis, and delivery trucks are allowed between Van Ness Ave. and Steuart St. There was a ceremonial parade, but I arrived at the Castro just as boat car 228 was laying over at the 17th St. terminal. Took a ride to Pier 39, photographing passing transit, and spent time shooting pictures at a favorite spot, The Embarcadero, Kearny, and North Point Sts. Vintage cars Melbourne 496 and Zurich 737 were also operating today. Ate lunch at Queen's Louisiana Poboys. Rode streetcars back to stops at Market and Drumm Sts., Market and Eighth Sts., and Market and Noe Sts. for more shots, including California cable car 49 decorated for the San Francisco 49ers football team. Finished up with photos at the 17th St. terminal going into evening hours.
