The Altamont Corridor Express is a regional San Francisco Bay Area line that connects Stockton in the Central Valley with San Jose. Three hourly morning trips (trains 01, 03, and 05) to Silicon Valley and three hourly evening trips (trains 04, 06, and 08) to Stockton operate weekdays except holidays. Proof of payment is required; ticket vending and validating machines are available at stations.

During the 2000s there was a fourth round trip (trains 07 to San Jose and 02 to Stockton) in the midday. This service was suspended on November 2, 2009.

Amtrak sponsored bus schedule no. 3910, which left San Jose Diridon Station for Stockton at 6:30 p.m., was discontinued November 2, 2009.

New trains 07 westbound and 10 eastbound operate one hour later than respective trains 05 and 08 effective summer 2012.

In 2017, hourly trains in the peak direction are 01, 03, 05, and 07 (westbound), and 04, 06, 08, and 10 (eastbound).

The 3:35 p.m. train from San Jose just crossed Bayshore Freeway and Lafayette Street. It is now paralleling the latter thoroughfare en route to Great America station. Cab car is number 3309, and engine is number 3104. December 19, 2006.



The 4:35 p.m. train from San Jose passes the neighborhood of Alviso to enter the marshes of south San Francisco Bay. Next stop is Fremont Centerville station. Cab car is number 3308, and engine is number 3105. December 19, 2006.

Train 04 crosses the Guadalupe River to enter Alviso on June 8, 2009. Engine 3101's 10th anniversary livery says, "Life is a journey...let us be the ride."

Train 06 eastbound (cab cars 3305-3308, cars 3216-3206-3205-3213, engine 3103) stops at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station on October 1, 2012. Fifty-five photos added 10/09/12.



Train 10 eastbound (cab 3302, cars 3210-3215, engine 3102) departs San Jose Diridon Station on October 1, 2012. There is a delay as a Caltrain unit leaves the station first. Part of these photos was shot at the bottom of the fence at the edge of the station platform, and the other part was taken from the pedestrian stairs leading from the railroad underpass to the HP Pavilion parking lot. One hundred thirty-three photos added 10/09/12.
