ABOUT CAR 1040:

Car 1040 is the last PCC streetcar built new in the United States (St. Louis Car Co., 1952). Muni preserved it for its historic fleet. The car was shipped to Brookville Equipment Corp. at the end of 2009 to be rehabilitated and was returned late 2011. In 2012 it was accepted for revenue service. The car wears the original green and cream "wings" livery.

Interior shots of PCC 1040 on April 5, 2012. The light fixture made me wonder if it would be appropriate to install compact fluorescent bulbs on the car. The fourth shot shows the restored conductor's seat; the 1016-1040 series as delivered were two-man crew cars, converted to one-man about 1955. There is a pole to the conductor's left where the fare box was installed. The interior color scheme is three shades of green. Four photos added 04/07/12.

On the first Heritage Weekend, PCC 1040 marked for J Church is outbound at Market and Drumm Sts. on November 4, 2012. Eighteen photos added 05/07/17.

PCC 1040 on J Church leaves the private right-of-way through Dolores Park and turns from Church to 17th Sts. on November 4, 2012. The large quantity of pictures happened because I was taking advantage of the three frames per second on my new Nikon D3100 SLR. Thirty-five photos added 05/07/17.
