ABOUT THE STREETCARS:

The 70 cars were leased from St. Louis Public Service in two batches in the late 1950s; money was later available to purchase them. A few of them are stored for possible future restoration.

PCC STREETCAR No. 1115:

PCC 1115 on K Ingleside outbound at Market and Powell Sts. on March 3, 1974. I like this image because of the presence of the Woolworth store on the corner. The Gap later opened in this location. All this was replaced in the 1970s when West Portal Station was built. 1138, ex-St. Louis Public Service 1741, wears the green and cream simplified livery. Scans come from a slide in my collection (mount is stamped C.G. Parsons) and were added 01/31/12.

Civic Center Pharmacy is on the corner in this picture; in 2011 the Civic Center Market is one of the stores currently in the location. Next to that is the Orpheum Theatre. Following 1170 is PCC 1026 on the N Judah, with an unidentified Twin trolley coach parallelling the second streetcar. Image comes from a slide in my collection and was added 09/11/11.
