Home Updates Mystery Trips San Francisco Muni Trolley Coaches

TWIN COACH 570:

Twin Coach 570 was fitted with experimental traction batteries and repainted in the new GMC red and gold colors. The trolley (marked route 14 in the rear numeric sign) is laying over at 24th and Mission Sts. in June 1970. Poles are down, so I guess the batteries helped the coach make it to this unwired location. The sign on the rear talks about a future return of trolley coach routes 9, 12, and 14 to the Mission corridor; I assume it refers to BART construction on Mission. Mack 2548 is parked ahead of the 570. Candle Light Shop is still located at 3330 24th St. in July 2013. Alex's on the corner sells Can't Bust 'Em work clothes. A dog is in the street (ah, the carefree earlier days, lol). Scan from a slide in my collection added 07/01/13.

Twin Coach 570 on 9 Richland at Richland Ave. and Murray St. on December 5, 1970. Scan comes from a Gerald Squier slide in my collection added 07/01/13.

TWIN COACH 579:

Twin Coach 579 at McAllister and Polk Sts. on April 24, 1972. Standard Oil of California used to operate stations under that name. After changing to Chevron Corporation in 1984, they only used the Standard name on placeholder stations to retain the trademark; the rest were rebranded Chevron. One such station remains at Van Ness Ave. and Pine St. Scan of an uncredited slide added 06/22/20.

TWIN COACH 644:

Twin Coach 644 at Union St. and Columbus Ave. next to Washington Square in December 1974. Scan of an uncredited slide added 06/22/20.
