The popularity of westerns on television in that era could be represented by the car card advertising a repeating six-shooter gun with soft bullets through Royal Crown Cola. My collection. One photo added 06/08/12.

Two photos added 01/24/15.

CAR 948:

Car 948 is ostensibly the subject of these two Roy Gabriel slides taken September 1, 1964. In the first one, 948 enters Canal from Carondelet. In the second, the car waits to turn onto St. Charles. The real context of these two slides is to show the recently completed conversion of the Canal streetcar line to buses. Public Service was quick in removing trackage and paving over the neutral ground for the new busway. Here it is three months later, and it is already finished and getting broken in with tire treads and fluid drips. Two of the three buses in these slides were purchased specifically to convert Canal; they would be Flxible 172 and GMC 199. We can also see GMC 29 from the first purchase of New Looks in 1960. Four photos added 04/26/12.

A night shot of several St. Charles cars on the Willow St. side of Carrollton Station. Numbers readable are, left to right, 920, 963, 948, and 953. Slide taken by Howard J. Wayt on May 16, 1969. One photo added 01/24/15.

Car 951 at Carrollton Station in September 1973. Jeannette St. is under construction; dual gauge trackage from the days of the South Claiborne Shuttle is still evident and would not be removed until RTA's rebuild in the early 1990s. My collection. One photo added 09/05/12.

An Earl Hampton, Jr. photo of car 951 on St. Charles Ave in the early 1990s. This was the second trolley to be rehabilitated after car 937; it was already in the shop being rebuilt after an electrical fire and was given the full treatment. One photo added 07/17/12.

The streetcar has NOPSI's lightning bolt (or swash, if you're not me) logo at the center of the side. This is probably a recent addition because cars did not previously carry Public Service logos. One photo added 09/22/11.
