CARS 402 AND 448:

Cars 402 and 448 are marked Tulane (Belt), while 857 is on the Cemeteries line and 870 on West End. All of this is at the foot of Canal St. in a year before 1948, when the 400s were scrapped. Uncredited image from the H. George Friedman collection added 03/11/21.

CAR 445:

Car 445 on the Tulane Belt outbound turns at Tulane and S. Carrollton Aves. no later than 1948, when the 400 series cars were scrapped. It looks like the outbound track has a dual gauge rail remnant, from circa 1929 when the Belts were widened but the Orleans-Kenner Electric Railway, which had trackage rights until that year, remained standard gauge. Scan of a small snapshot, uncredited and undated, from the collection of H. George Friedman added 03/08/21.

CAR 449:

Car 449 on the Tulane Belt line outbound at the foot of Canal St. on September 12, 1943. Duplicate slide from the H. George Friedman collection added 04/17/13.

CAR 816:

In an undated and uncredited 1950s slide, car 816 is in the crossover at S. Carrollton and S. Claiborne Aves. on another trip to Canal St. There is plenty of action to be seen. Car X63 (first digit unknown) is in the riverbound track. A&G Restaurant was located in the space behind the Amoco service station; Burger King replaced the "good food" restaurant in the 1960s. The top rear of a Tulane trolley coach is at S. Claiborne ready to return to the CBD. Two GMC 5105 buses are in the South Claiborne terminal. Express lamps can be seen on the coaches, so this dates from 1955, when the limited stop Carrollton via Poydras entered service. And on the right, the original location of the K&B Drug Store at Claiborne and Carrollton was on the downtown riverside corner. In the 1960s, it moved to the uptown lakeside corner diagonally across the intersection. Two photos from a slide in my collection added 01/24/15.

CAR 827:

Car 827 with car 960 at Carrollton and Claiborne on August 17, 1962. A Tulane trolley coach makes its u-turn across the tracks to begin its inbound trip. First photo from H. George Friedman collection added 12/12/11, second photo from my collection added 01/11/12.

CAR 830:

Car 830 on the Tulane Belt outbound just past South Claiborne Ave. before January 8, 1951, the date service on Tulane Ave. was discontinued. In the background is a sign for Rosenberg's Furniture ("1825 Tulane!"). Perhaps the woman in the left foreground has returned from a train station; she carries a suitcase as she crosses the neutral ground. One photo from my collection added 06/08/12.

CAR 832:

CAR 842:

Car 842 at an undetermined St. Charles Ave. location; I suspect it might be Louisiana Ave. Both the Hibernia National Bank and the First Baptist Church buildings are gone. Slide was probably taken in the 1950s. No photographer credit indicated. Scan added 03/19/20.

CARS 844 AND 850:

Cars 844 and 850 at S. Carrollton Ave. and Dixon St. on January 27, 1951. The Tulane Belt was discontinued January 8th and St. Charles began terminating here Scan of a print purchased from Seth Bramson added 03/19/20.

Liberty St. and Tulane Ave. between March 6, 1947, when cars were rerouted to this street going to Canal, and January 8, 1951, the discontinuance of the belts. Charity Hospital is in the background. Uncredited image from the collection of H. George Friedman added 03/12/21.

GMC fishbowl buses are laying over at the Kenner Local/Huey Long Bridge/Kenner Express terminal in the background. One photo scanned from a slide in my collection added 02/16/12.

Instead, Tatra equipment was originally installed on them, later replaced by Brookville running gear. Slide by an unknown photographer from my collection added 10/07/19.

The Strauch family chartered car 905 for an August 4, 2005 streetcar party honoring the 80th birthday of the eldest member, my father's uncle Clarence. The event was a surprise to him; why were family members meeting him at the car barn? We rode from Carrollton Station to Canal Street and back. Clarence seems to be in his element; he's quite pleased with the happenings. Here too is a photo, from the party following the charter, of three of the four senior Strauch siblings: Bill Sr., Alice, and Clarence (not pictured is Walter). A charter was appropriate because they have a history of using the NORy&L/NOPSI streetcar system in their younger days. In fact, Walter is the one who nicknamed me "Streetcar Mike" in 1982 because of my knowledge.

Two shots of the interior from the rear of the car, once at Carrollton Station before departure and once en route on the journey.
